Artist's Statement

I have found that my art and the work that I do at Sweet Briar College as Director of Outdoor Programs directly influence each other. On a rock climbing or backpacking trip participants will often find that they can push beyond their perceived limitations. The importance of communication between group members is vital. These same themes are repeated in my art work: communicating and going beyond expected limitations. Creativity and art contribute to my design of outdoor programs. On the other hand, my love of nature and outdoor adventure affects my art work. For example, I am passionate about rock climbing and dance, so I created a video of a choreographed vertical dance on a climbing wall. I have discovered that by choosing one path, major, or career, that my other talents will not fall away. By having these performance art pieces within this anthology, I hope to emphasize the overlap of disciplines.
